'G':For Garden, And This Is Our Beautiful Garden

We have been living in Whitefield Bangalore for the last 13 years. Having always lived  in apartments, we never really had the pleasure of having our own garden. However when we built this house our wish was granted, and we are very happy with the way our garden was designed.
Following the Spanish architecture (which was my husband's idea), our landscape architect designed a beautiful perennial garden for us, for we did not want to keep changing plants off and on, nor did we want plants that needed lot of water.
Of course, we had to change a few plants here and there because as the taller plants started to grow, the shorter ones were deprived of enough sunlight, but basically the main plants have remained the same throughout.
We have plenty of arches, a pergola, and our garden has a lovely curvy pattern all around, which goes very well with our Spanish villa theme.
I must warn you there are lots and lots of pictures, so enter at your own risk....
Here are a few pictures of our garden:
                                                                  Our front lawn

                                                        Our courtyard

This our kitchen, from where i can see the world go by as I cook
This is when the flowers are in full bloom, and below when this plant still looks beautiful without flowers

                                                   Our Rock/ Pebble garden
                                                        The Terracotta Mural
Our Spanish Bell visible through the palm trees
The Cashew tree which was such a baby when we first bought this plot
and it has grown so big and beautiful.

Another view of Courtyard, before the poison ivy started growing, and covering the arch

                                                                  The Alamendas

This the Tumburjiya creeper that is growing on our pergola, it is so beautiful: the golden flowers would hang down.

Beautiful Lantanas
There are so many pictures, but I don't want to bore you with too many pictures, as it is it has turned out to be photo blog.
Did you enjoy our garden?

    1. Thanks Shilpa, it is indeed a house made with lot of love, and each one of our family, and very close friends had poured their heart into making this beautiful house.

  3. I know Jerry, how you love your garden, and how you have put your heart and soul in making it so beautiful.I don't know why you feel our garden is formal, if you see it in person you would see how informal it is.
Thanks Jerry. No fruits or vegetables for us as only the squirrels come and spoil everything for us. We do have a guava tree, and not a single fruit is left for us to eat. We have the cashew tree, though it bears lovely luscious fruits every year, we don't like to eat it for it irritates our throat, however there are many people who love to eat this sweet cashew fruit and we let them come and take it in bags, for there are so many. I wish we could make Fenni a very powerful and tasty liquor, made with these cashew fruits, and is a very popular drink of Goa.
We also have a coconut tree which is good, provided the squirrels don't mess up with the nuts while they are still very small.

Yes it is always a pleasure to just look at our garden any time of the day, and any time of the year, as you can see by the pictures taken by me at various times. I never get bored of our garden for it looks different at different times although the garden is the same.

  5. Wow Rama!! I just love the way you have laid out the garden, I'm sure a lot of thought must have gone into each and every plant and its location... Nature is beautiful in all seasons and you are blessed indeed to revel in it:) I sure takes a lot of effort to maintain it, so kudos on that :)I sure enjoyed the virtual walk through your garden over different time slices :)

I agree with you, nature is indeed beautiful in all seasons.
Actually we left it to the landscape architect to do all layout of the plants, we told him we wanted a minimum maintenance garden with no exotic plants that would need lot of pampering and caring, and also we needed a perennial garden. He knew what we wanted and designed the garden accordingly. Since our house has a naturally curvy pattern it was easy to go with natural curves.
Other than cutting/ trimming, watering and feeding the plants with the healthy stuff nothing else needs to be done. The plants grow all by themselves, and compared to other gardens ours need less water, which is very important in Bangalore, where there is severe water shortage.

    1. Thanks Renu. Somehow this garden turned out to be very beautiful and yet simple. When I see much prettier gardens, I feel very good about them, but when I see the amount of love and care one would have to shower on such gardens, I feel we are not suited for such gardens. I do admire their commitment.

    1. Sandhya this is a minimum maintenance garden, so no worries regarding that and also regarding water for the plants, for they take less water than other such huge gardens. We had to keep in mind the severe water shortage in Bangalore.

    1. Yes we kind of went overboard with our idea of building a Spanish villa, that too in a budget. Everybody pitched in and somehow the end result was very good.
