The Showers of Bangalore

April showers are coming in May, in Bangalore.
It was unbearably hot this time. For the past few years we have hardly had any proper winter also.
Bangalore which is supposed to be a Garden City, is now become a Garden of Concrete Jungle.
From being compared to a hill station, it has now become a famous Garbage station.
Last year the winter lasted only for about 15 days.

At last, we have rains, the plants and the trees are really enjoying the rain.
I took some pictures of the rain today.  As the saying goes: When it rains it really pours....

How beautiful is the rain!
After the dust and the heat,
In the broad and fiery street,
In the narrow lane,
How beautiful is the rain!
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Rain in Summer

Everywhere water is a thing of beauty gleaming in the dewdrop, singing in the summer rain.
- John Ballantine Gough

Can you see the huge drops of rain falling, it was so beautiful to watch

Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby.
Langston Hughes

I really love the rain, what about you?

  1. I loved each and every photo- and the various quotes and poetic verses about rain. I LOVE RAIN- especially after an especially hot and dusty time--

    And this is for you--

    white sprawling porches
    tropical rain pounding down
    washing the dry ground
    watery sunlight peeks through
    sweet scent of rain lingers

    1. Thanks Renu, yes rains are very romantic, whether the man to romance with is there or not. It is the time to have some pakodas and chai, and listen to some good music and watch the rain.

  4. Beautiful pics, especially the header of your blog!
Talking about the change in weather clock... well, it has changed in Jaipur too. Almost everyday, in the evenings, a dust storm starts which is followed by showers and its so pleasant and wonderful later. While actually it should had been 40-45 degrees during this time!!

  5. Those are pretty pics . The lawn and the garden I presume are the ones you have.

If you have not read get hold of the book "Chasing the Monsoon' by Alexander Frater. It was also made into a BBC film.

Gives you some good descriptions of the rains in the subcontinent , the monsoon that swings inland at the seashore off Thiruvantahapuram and moves forward into the land engulfing areas up to the NE .

I miss the rains and walking in the rain.

  8. I waited for the rain. It was so damn hot this time. I am just basking in this beautiful weather. But, another kind of fury is unleashed on the roads with power out, trees falling, roads being flooded. But, weatherwise, if you are sitting inside your home, nothing beats a shower.

    1. True Rachna, one would not like to be caught in a such a heavy downpour outside the comfort of ones home. And it is really sad for some people who have to bear the brunt of such heavy rains playing havoc in their lives.
