What To Write?

A time comes when all of us stuck for ideas to write about: we end up staring at a blank page, with a big question mark ?

What to write ????

Some sites have come up with ideas like quotes to inspire you to write something like:

If there’s a book you really want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it. ~ Toni Morrison

I would say:
There is a book I really want to write, but hasn't been written by me yet, and I will definitely write it one day.
So much for getting inspired.

Another quote: The one thing that you have that nobody else has is you. Your voice, your mind, your story, your vision. So write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only you can. ~ Neil Gaiman

Yes, I am going to write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only I can, but only when the time is right.

Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self. ~ Cyril Connolly

This is the one to which I can relate the most.

That is so very true, if I write I would write for myself, write from my heart, I would never write on subjects suggested by others, for I am not the type to let others take control over my life. My life is my very own, to be lived in the way I want to live.

Also I like to write from own experiences, only changing it here and there for a little dramatic effect when need arises. Nothing can sound more authentic, than what comes right from our hearts.

I like to write about my memories, the things that moved me, to write about the amazing changes that I have gone through my life, to write about my initial resistance to change and my eventual desire to change. The humor, the sadness, the happiness, the surprises, there are so many things to write about from our own lives. Our stories can fill volumes and volumes if only we decided to write a novel

So I wait for that novel to happen, which is still in brewing stage right now, but one day it would be ready, that is my belief.

Some quotes from my side too to inspire all of us:

“To dream by night is to escape your life. To dream by day is to make it happen.”
― Stephan Richards
“No matter how small you start, always dream big.”
― Stephan Richards

Thousands of geniuses live and die undiscovered - either by themselves or by others. ~Mark Twain
Do not let yourself be one of them.
If you hear a voice within you say "you cannot paint," then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced. ~Vincent Van Gogh

I like to change that a little bit like: "If you hear a voice within you say "you have nothing to write", then by all means write something, anything, and that voice will be silenced."
Did I not write something?

So how do you deal with the Blank Page Syndrome?

  4. Well, I admit that I get stuck too, Rama. Sometimes I think it is like playing "ping-pong" by yourself.
When I get no comments it encourages me to say nothing. I have told most of my stories, important elements to my life. I have even tried to be critical and irritating in hope of gleaning a response!
I find I am repeating myself. It is gardening season again so that is what I am doing...again!
I still appreciate other's blogs and almost always leave a response just to let them know I was there.

    1. It is always better to get no response from people who have nothing to say, then get some diplomatic comments. I have a very dear friend who writes excellently on many topics, but never gets any comments in her comment box, and neither does she comments on any body's blogs. But she is very happy documenting her thoughts, because she writes for herself and not for others. She has even written many books too.
You are a wonderful person Jerry, you need only genuine people commenting and that you do have for your blogs.
Enjoy your gardens, and do post pictures of your beautiful tomatoes

  6. Blank page syndrome is something we all have faced Rama, esp when you attempt fiction. sometimes even though I start off typing quite smoothly , I get stuck midway, not knowing how to proceed...At such times I just take a break, look at old pictures and then memory prompts me to share some old experience. So it will be a new post about an old memory. The fiction post stays in the draft for quite some time till the mind feels like taking it up again. It is really tough to come up with fiction regularly, atleast for me.

    1. Reshma, it is nice to hear, how you tackle this syndrome.
Even when we write a fiction, it has some aspects of our lives weaving itself in it automatically, and I know the ideas keep changing every time we go through our drafts, because we keep changing. Thanks Reshma for sharing your views here.
